Why switch?
There are many reasons, but Apple themselves make the most well-rounded case for it. Here’s my take on why switch. Here’s Applematter’s take.
Here’s a super overview by Walt Mossberg of the WSJ on the differences when switching. It’s kinda a go-to guide when poking around your new Mac OS X computer. Example: “Start Menu: There is no Start Menu on a Mac. Its functions are divided between the Dock and the Apple menu at the upper left of the Mac screen.”
How do I switch?
There are a number of ways to move your data to your new Mac, from simply emailing yourself some files (if you’re a VERY light computer user) to hiring an Apple Store employee to do it professionally. I wrote a bit on how to switch over a year ago, but the theories are the same. Here are more recent resources on how to switch to a Mac from Windows:
- Start here Switch 101 and if your issues isn’t covered, move down this list
- How to move your data from a PC to your Mac via a network.
- How to move your data from a PC to your Mac via a network, forum thread.
- How to move your data from a PC to your Mac via an iPod, CD, network or Internet.
- Have an Apple Store “Genius” do it (free — $150). Call your Apple Store to find out how much, if anything, this will cost. Rumor has it a new Mac purchase will knock this fee to $0.
